The American Kennel Club has announced the most popular dog breeds of 2015. Labrador retrievers lead the pack nationwide and the French bulldog took New York City’s top spot in the American Kennel Club’s 2015 ranking. Here’s a look at the city’s top five breeds.
5. Yorkshire Terrier
The fifth most popular dog in New York City was once the most popular dog in NYC in the early 2000’s. My guess is because of the whole Paris Hilton phenomena. Unfortunately, just as her popularity started to wane, so did the popularity of the Yorkie. Since then, people have gravitated to the scrappier breeds as you’ll see in the list.
4. Golden Retriever
In fourth place is the golden retriever. This breed tends to be the favorite of small families.
3. Labrador Retriever
The Lab ranks as Americas number 1 breed, but in NYC it takes the number 3 spot. Much like the golden retriever, the Labrador is a great family breed. Other than the standard tan colored lab, the chocolate labs (brown) are growing in popularity throughout the city.
Holding tight to the number 2 spot is the Bulldog. This breed is in incredibly popular among upwardly mobile 30 something.
1. French Bulldog
And taking the number 1 spot for New York City’s most The French bulldog is New York City’s top dog in the American Kennel Club’s 2015 ranking of the most popular breeds in the United States.
